Rescuing Targus

A little Trinket snake was rescued on the 26th of Jan 2015 by the Rehabber’s Den Team. The snake had slithered into someone’s bedroom and disappeared under the bed. In trying to get the snake out, the society’s guards tried probing with a stick and ended up spraying HIT, a household insecticide, when they could no longer see the snake. When rescued, the snake was largely immobile and struggling to breathe.

But all was not lost.

The snake was provided emergency treatment by Dr. Aditi Chitnis (Tulpule’s Pet Care Clinic) under guidance of senior rehabilitator, Saleem Hameed. Despite the odds, the vet fondly named him Targus in the hope that he will survive and recover from his ordeal.

Targus did in fact respond to the emergency treatment and care provided, made a full recovery and was released on the 3rd day.

Rescuing Targus

The Common Trinket (Coelognathus Helena) is a non-venomous, absolutely harmless, and one of the most beautiful snakes found in India. Sometimes though, they just end up inside houses while chasing lizards!

Please do not injure or kill snakes out of ignorance and fear. India has an amazing network of snake rescuers, commonly known as ‘sarp mitra’ or ‘Friends of Snakes’. Please reach out for help when you see a snake.
